Beach volleyball is played on beaches or other sandy areas and involves teams of two or four players. The first team to win 21 points (15 points in the third set) wins a set, and a match consists of three sets. Players need to be competent in a wide variety of skills, including receiving, passing, tossing, spiking, blocking and serving.

* The age of the youngest player in the team shall determine the age category.
* The age category entered must be either the actual age category or a younger age category.

1. For safety reasons, players with hearing impairment (deaf) should participate only in the hearing impairment category. And, non-para player is not allowed to participate in the hearing impairment category.
2. Japanese nationals with hearing impairment who wish to participate in the competition may be requested to submit documents related to (1), (2) or (3) as needed.
　(1) A public certificate or doctor's medical certificate proving that the Deaflympics criteria (55 dB) are met. Provided, however, that registration with the Deaf Sports Association is not required.
　(2) Membership of Japan Deaf Volleyball Association
　(3) Member of All Japan Deaf Federation or affiliated organisations
3. Overseas nationals with hearing impairment who wish to participate in the competition may be requested to submit documents related to (1) or (2) as needed.
　(1) A public certificate or doctor's medical certificate proving that the Deaflympics criteria (55 dB) are met. Provided, however, that registration with the Deaf Sports Association is not required.
　(2) Registration with the Deaf Sports Association in their own country

In line with the sport-specific rules, an athlete must compete in their designated age group, with your age determined as at 31st December 2022.
For example, if you are 39 during Games time but have turned 40 by 31st December 2022, you would compete in the 40+ age category.
