World Masters Games 2021 Kansai will be the first World Masters Games to be held in Asia and over a wide area. An important part of the Games is the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Based on the Games theme of "The Blooming of Sport for Life," the ceremonies will aim to show the world Japanese culture and traditions and the best of the Kansai Region. It will be a ceremony for lifetime sports inspiring dreams for the next generation.

CONCEPT

From Kyoto, full of Japanese tradition and culture, a wonderful Opening Ceremony befitting the Games is to be held to unite the Kansai Region for these Games to be held over wide area.

Opening Ceremony Overview

Venue Kyoto city:Okazaki Area (Heian Jingu Shrine, Okazaki Park, etc.)
・Opening Ceremony Venue: Heian Jingu Shrine, Okazaki Park athletic field, Rohm Theatre Kyoto
Date and Time May 14th, 2021 (Fri.) at 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • ・Besides the Opening Ceremony (3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.), a parade will also be held.
Expected Number of Participants 20,000 to 30,000
*For the Opening Ceremony, the four areas of Heian Jingu Shrine area, Okazaki Park athletic field area, Rohm Theatre Okazaki Park area, and Miyako Messe will be used. Only the Heian Jingu Shrine area will have restricted entry. Since only a limited number of people can enter, entry will be restricted during the Opening Ceremony.

  • ・In case of bad weather, the ceremony will be held in Rohm Theatre Kyoto.
  • ・Only Games participants can enter the Ceremony venue area. (Companions for Games participants who are below age 12 or disabled may also enter the Ceremony venue area.)
  • ・A spectator area will also be provided.
Ceremony Languages Japanese, English, and sign language (Japanese sign language and international sign language).
Policies Specific Features Based on the Concept
  • ■Games theme: The Opening Ceremony will have many flowers expressing "The Blooming of Sport for Life."
  • ■The Opening Ceremony will feature Kyoto and Japanese culture for all five senses.
  • ■The Opening Ceremony will be very festive in the Okazaki area.
  • ■Opening Ceremony featuring hearty hospitality will be made possible by local culture and people.

  • Opening Performance official flowers of host cities and prefectures to be gathered and used in performances to generate excitement.
