Sport Overview

Postponement has been decided for the World Masters Games 2021 Kansai.
The new dates are being arranged.
Please note that the followings are the information before the postponement was confirmed.



Road bicycle racing is a cycling sport that takes place on public roads. A big group of riders start simultaneously, and the first to finish is the winner.
In the World Masters Games 2021 Kansai, riders will go around a specially-prepared 16.2km long course.

Eligibility

1. Eligibility
 Participants must be registered with a UCI member federation as at 2022 as follows:
[Domestic Participants]Must hold a UCI ID and/or a JCF license with a registration number.
[Overseas Athlete]Must hold a UCI ID number.
* No temporary license will be issued.

2. Exclusion of eligibility
 Athletes who fall under any of the following cannot participate.
(1) Athletes who have participated in the World Championships, Continental Championships (eg: Asian Championship), Olympics (2020 Tokyo Olympics), Regional Games (eg: Asian Games), and World Cup track races (excluding races only for masters) in 2020 and 2021.
(2) In addition, athletes who have participated in a competition listed on the UCI International Calendar in 2020 or 2021 (any races that earn UCI points such as professional tour races. Not including Gran Fondo or masters competitions which do not award UCI points).
(3) Athletes who are members of a team registered with UCI in 2020 or 2021.
(4) Athletes who are suspended or punished by either UCI or the National Federation affiliated with UCI.
* Exclusion rules above do not apply to athletes in para sport divisions except for paragraph 2.(4).

3. Necessary procedures
 Declare whether or not you have participated in any road races within 3 years (2019 – 2020).
* As this will be an international event, there will be many athletes racing at the same time on the road. To ensure the safety of all athletes, we recommend that you gain some experience racing in groups and take part in a road race before the Games.

4. Para Competition Classes
(1) Japanese nationals with impairments who wish to participate must register with the Japan Cycling Federation before applying for participation.
(2) Overseas nationals with impairments who wish to participate are required to hold the following licenses prior to application and attach copies of licenses in PDF when applying for participation:
a)Cycling National License issued by your country’s National Federation.
b)Cycling International License required for participating in an international competition (and a designated Sport Class Status)

5. Para Open classes
(1) Japanese nationals with impairments who wish to participate must register with the Japan Cycling Federation before applying for participation. Additionally, attach a copy of a Disability Certificate or Medical Certificate in PDF when applying for participation:
(2) Overseas nationals with impairments who wish to participate are required to prepare the following 2 documents prior to application and attach copies in PDF when applying for participation:
a) Cycling National License issued by your country’s National Federation.
b) Disability Certificate or Medical Certificate

Age Requirement

Minimum age is 30 (born on or before 31st December 1992)
* Athletes must compete in the age category to which they belong as of 31st December 2022.
(Example: If you are 39 years old during the tournament and you are 40 years old by 31st December 2022, you will compete in the age category 40-44 years old.)
